Flameless Evacuation

A variety of flameless extraction equipment is available that complies with NFPA 68 and EN 14797 and is used to reduce dust explosions. These flameless evacuation equipment consist of two parts: “Explosion Covers” and “Dampeners”. The damper consists of multiple layers of stainless steel mesh supported by a metal frame. Ignition and sparking within a closed container cause the pressure to increase rapidly. Burst caps are designed to reduce and relieve pressure. Burning dust, flame and hot gases all enter the damper through this opened cover. The damper then takes over to absorb heat from the flame and hot gases. The steel mesh acts as a heat sink to reduce the temperature, extinguish the flame and break the chain reaction of the explosion. The flame is completely trapped in the damper, thus providing flameless explosion relief for safe operation in indoor environments. Flameless evacuation equipment is the ideal passive explosion mitigation tool.
